It’s no secret that going through a divorce is very difficult, and can be very traumatic. The process can be very lonely, and bring up some very difficult emotions. Many people experience the feelings of loss, anger, sadness, and hurt. While most people try and go through this by themselves, others find it helpful to find a support group to help them go through the process.
How can a support group help you?
Discovering you’re not alone –
many people find it helpful to realize there are others going through the same thing. It allows them to connect with others who can relate to their pain and frustrations. Not only can they understand and sympathize, but they can encourage you in the moments you need it the most. While you may have lost your family as you knew it, you can gain a whole new family of people who can help you through this new phase of life.
Learning to cope –
when you join a support group, one of the things you will begin to learn is coping skills. You can meet with professionals who are experts in divorce and recovery. You’ll meet people who have been through it, and made it to the other side.
Healing conversations –
you’ll begin to have the opportunity to talk about what you’re going through, and get your emotions on the table. Many times this can help to deal with the hurt and pain of your relationship, and allow you not take those emotions out on your ex-spouse and affect the relationships with your children.
